Ramp provided by Next Day Access Kansas City

Next Day Access Kansas City was honored to donate a ramp installation at the Night to Stand event for NextStep Kansas City. NextStep Kansas City is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Activity-Based Therapy for individuals living with paralysis. Located in Overland Park, NextStep Kansas City is the sole facility of its kind in the area, committed to being a cutting-edge paralysis recovery center. “Our mission at NextStep is to offer accessible and effective interventions, along with other resources, to promote recovery, health, and wellness among our clients,” said Katie Johnson, an employee at NextStep. Since insurance does not cover their program, they heavily rely on community support to ensure that those living with paralysis have access to effective recovery programs. There are a few crucial components that bring this to life: managing recovery costs, continually enhancing and maintaining training equipment, and financially assisting clients. Since fundraisers are critical for NextStep’s various events, especially Night to Stand, Next Day Access Kansas City seized the opportunity to donate a wheelchair ramp.

Night to Stand is an annual charity dinner and auction organized to support year-long opportunities for their clients. “This year, our focus is on shattering barriers, celebrating the progress made by our clients, and to ignite the spark for the transformative work that lies ahead,” Katie continued. “The interventions we offer are more than just programs; they are lifelines that offer independence, strength, and the realization of untapped potential for individuals facing paralysis.” The theme of the event, breakthrough, aligned well with the work that Next Day Access does, and it was a natural fit for Kansas City to participate.

“After searching Google and contacting numerous rental options locally, I quickly realized the scarcity of short-term ramp rentals throughout Kansas City. I eventually discovered Next Day Access and was surprised to learn about their widespread presence across the country, along with their effortless service in my area,” said Chris Smith, the Executive Director of NextStep Kansas City. “Next Day Access provided the precise ramp solution I needed for my fundraiser and collaborated with the stage provider to secure the ramp to the stage effectively. The entire process was seamless.”

When choosing to rent or buy a ramp the decision can be confusing. An important thing to consider is how long will you need the ramp? If you think you will need it for longer than 6 months many people choose to buy the ramp. If you have a temporary injury and will need the ramp for less than 6 months, you might consider renting the ramp rather than buying it.

However, different situations call for unique solutions. We compiled a checklist of common ramp uses to better explain why you should choose whether to rent or purchase a ramp.

Rent a Ramp

  • If you are injured and will only need short-term rehabilitation. If doctors believe you will make a full recovery, you will likely only need a ramp temporarily, therefore renting is a better choice in this scenario.
  • If you are renting your property, it might be better to rent the wheelchair ramp. Most landlords will not pay to have a wheelchair ramp installed on their property.
  • An end-of-life or hospice situation. If you know your loved one or yourself only have a few more years or months renting is preferable.
  • You have guests with mobility challenges coming to visit and you would like to accommodate them during their stay.
  • You are planning a special event. Perhaps you are having a wedding at your home or a family reunion. Whatever the case may be, it will be nice for anyone with difficulty in mobility to enter the house safely.

Buy a Ramp

  • You might consider purchasing the ramp if it will be used for longer than 6 months.
  • You or the one needing the ramp owns the property and would like to install a wheelchair ramp to make the home permanently accessible for years to come.

At Next Day Access, we offer a variety of wheelchair ramp styles for you to rent or buy, such as foldable ramps, aluminum ramps, weatherproof ramps, and more. We will deliver and install wheelchair ramps for both residential and commercial customers. You can contact us for a quick quote. You will also receive a free estimate and financing is available if you choose to buy.
